Fix Brother Printer Offline issue
1. VERIFY THE BROTHER PRINTER IS POWERED ON AND THERE ARE NO ERRORS
Check the Printer’s display panel at the front. If the display is blank, then the Brother Printer might be turned off. Verify if the power cable is connected securely and printer is getting power from outlet. Press the power button again to turn the printer back on, or to wake the printer from sleep mode.
Also verify if the LCD screen shows any error messages. For example, such an error message could be “Paper Jam” or “Empty Ink/Toner”. make sure you clear the issue first.
2. CHECK THE PRINTER TRAY FOR ANY PAPER JAM
Make sure the bother machine has enough paper in the tray and they are aligned properly to the tray. Replace the Ink cartridges if you see a low ink or empty ink error message.
3. MAKE SURE YOUR BROTHER MACHINE IS THE DEFAULT PRINTER
Go to Apple menu and select System Preferences – > Open Printers and Scanners -> Check if your Brother Printer is set as the default printer. Set it to default from the drop down menu at the right side if not.
4. DELETE ALL PRINTER JOBS
Open Printers and Scanners from System preferences again and select your Brother Printer from the list on the left. Click “Open Print Queue..” button on the right and chose the print job and delete it. You can keep clicking on the x sign on the right to delete the jobs.
5. RESUME THE PAUSED BROTHER PRINTER
Select the Brother Printer’s icon on the left and click “Open Print Queue…” then verify the printer status.
You may see “Resume” or “Resume Printer” icon across the top tool menu bar if the printer went to sleep or out of paper during printing, or it turned off. Click the button “Resume” or “Resume Printer”. If you have tried so far and the Brother Printer is still offline then move on to the next few steps.
6. RE-REGISTER OR REINSTALL THE BROTHER PRINTER
Open System preferences -> Select the Brother Printer you are having trouble with, then click the [-] button at the bottom of the list to remove the printer.
Now click [+] button to add the printer again. If you are unable to see the printer thereafter, it means the printer is either not connected to Wi-Fi or it is not recognized in case of USB connection.
Turn the Printer off and on again, re-seat the USB cable if you use a wired connection. Restart and try to add the printer again.
7. RESET PRINTER SYSTEM
Go to system preferences and open Printer and scanners. Right click or “Ctrl” click at the printer’s list on the left and select “Reset Printing System.” This will delete all the installed printers and their drivers. Now you need to add and install printers as mentioned in the previous method #6.
Click [+] button and select the printer from the available list of Printers. Wait for the Printer Driver to download and install. If your is unable to find or install the the driver follow the steps as mentioned in the post downloading and installing Brother Printer Drivers.
