How to connect an Epson Printer to Wireless network?

Connect an Epson Printer to Wireless Network?

In order to print from a new Epson printer, you need to connect the Epson printer to wireless network or Wi-Fi first. And then add the printer to your computer from control panel to start printing. You will not need to download any additional driver from Epson Support website in case you are running Windows 8.1 or above and Mac OS X 1011 or above. The driver software are automatically downloaded through Windows or Apple software update service respectively.

All Wi-Fi enabled Epson printers, can be setup through one or more of three different wireless modes –

(1) Wi-Fi Infrastructure Mode Setup
(2) Wi-Fi Direct Mode Setup
(3) Wi-Fi Protected Mode Setup (WPS)
Following are the three different modes using which you can connect an Epson printer to wireless network.

Wi-Fi Infrastructure Mode Setup

Wi-Fi Infrastructure mode usually have an access point built into your Wi-Fi router or Modem that you get from your ISP . In this mode, all your home devices are connected together over a wireless or wired network through an access point / router. You can setup your Epson printer to print from your computer using the wireless access point too.

Before connecting the Epson Printer to wireless network:

You need following devices & equipments:

  1. Wireless enabled Epson Printer
  2. Computer with a wireless interface
  3. Access point or wireless router
  4. Internet Connection
  5. Ethernet cable (used only for wired connection to the wireless router or access point)

Information required:

  • Wireless Network Name (SSID)
  • Network Key (Password, Security Key or Encryption Key, etc.)

Connect an Epson Printer to Wireless network.

To connect your Epson Printer to Wi-Fi

1.Press the home Home Button at Epson Printer control panel button.

2. Press the up or down arrow buttons to select Wi-Fi Setup and press the OK button. You will see the following screen:

3. Select Wi-Fi Setup Wizard and press the OK button.

4. Do one of the following:

  • Using the up and down arrow key, highlight the Wi-Fi network name you want to connect to and press OK to select.
  • Press the cancel button (a circle with a triangle icon) to cancel the selection and select a different Wi-Fi network. If your Wi-Fi name doesn’t show up in the list, you can enter it manually. Select the “Other Network” option and type the Wi-Fi name manually.

5. If you see the following screen, enter your W-Fi password (or SSID and then password).

6. Press OK to confirm Wi-Fi settings.

7. You may be asked whether you want to print the network status report. Select Yes if you want, or No if you don’t, and press the OK button.

Your Epson Printer should now be connected to the Wireless network.

Note: Once you are successfully connected, you may see the SSID and IP address information in the status report that you printed in the previous steps and the WiFi connection symbol is also lit. If the WiFi symbol isn’t lit you may not have entered the correct WiFi password or selected the wrong network. Repeat the steps from 1 through 7 to try connecting again.

Wi-Fi Direct Mode Setup

In Wi-Fi Direct Mode, your Epson Printer turns out as a wireless access point or router and allows you to connect upto 4 devices at a time. Your computer and other wireless device can connect directly to your printer and send the print job. When you enable Wi-Fi Direct mode, your printer shows you a network name and password. You are required to connect to the same network created by the Epson printer, in order to print from it. This is the easiest way to connect an Epson Printer to Wireless network when you don’t have any access point or router. 

Before trying to connect to the WiFi, you need the following:

1. Epson Printer

2. Computer with a wireless network interface

3. Other wireless device to print from

Connect the printer with Wi-FI Direct

In order to connect your Epson Printer with WiFi direct, you must enable the “WiFi Direct” feature from the printer. Once you have enabled it, you can make direct communication between your Printer and computer or other devices without a WiFi router or access point.

1. Press the home Home Button at Epson Printer control panel button.

2. Press the up or down arrow buttons to select Wi-Fi Setup and press the OK button.

3. Using the arrow keys highlight to select “Wi-Fi Direct Setup” from the menu and press the OK button.

4. Select “Connection Setup” and press the OK button.

5. Press the down arrow button and then the OK button to change the password.

6. Enter the new Wi-Fi Direct password.

Note: Your password must be between 8 and 22 characters long.

7. When you have finished typing the password, select Done and press the OK button.

8. Press the OK button again and the Printer will display the WiFi Direct SSID and network key/wireless password.

9. Now connect your computer or any other wireless device to the same WiFi network that your Epson Printer created and showed in the last step. Once you are connected, you can print from the connected device.

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

Wi-Fi protected mode setup(WPS) the easiest method to connect an Epson Printer to Wireless network. This method doesn’t require you to remember your wireless password or key. You simply need to press the WPS button located on your router or access point and then press the WPS button on your printer. Some router has a physical WPS button often located at the back, but all new access point or wireless router has a software WPS button. In software button, you need to login to the admin console of your wireless router or access point and then push the WPS button to initiate the connection process. To check if your router is WPS-enabled, refer to the router’s user guide or documentation provided by your ISP.

Using WPS to Connect to a Wireless Network

1. Press the home Home Button at Epson Printer control panel button.
2. Press the up or down arrow buttons to select Wi-Fi Setup and press the OK button.

4. Follow the instructions on the LCD screen to complete WPS setup and to connect an Epson Printer to Wireless network.
Your Epson printer should now be connected to the wireless network.
